Literature Text

I rest my hands
on the sun-warmed fence
stretching unending-
left
and right.

I gaze out over the savanna grass
undulating in the afternoon breeze,
my hair playing across my face and lips.

Long ago the forest reigned here,
mammoth trees that guarded their realm,
like lions, great kings.

Fallen now
their bones lie
bleached and warm
in the summer sun.
A piece for :iconpetalsforthenoose: 's word association challenge. Thanks Katie!

The required words: tree, fence, lips, lion

Hope you enjoy :) comments/critiques welcome!

You described dry warmth so that the reader could feel it. Since you mentioned the location earlier on, the "lions" reference was integrated just fine. Old trees, ancient myths, and bone imagery always go well together (or, at least, I think so -- maybe because I tend to use them).
